Through publish and read agreements (also known as read and publish or PaR), researchers no longer have to incur any additional costs for open access publishing in the subscription journals (hybrid Open Access) of the publishers concerned. At the same time, a comprehensive right of access to publishers' content that is not yet available in Open Access is provided.
Passau University Library has entered into publish and read agreements for members of the University of Passau with the publishers listed below.

Under the publish and read agreement with Cambridge University Press, corresponding authors of the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their publications in hybrid journals and pure open access journals (Gold OA) in open access without further costs or a cap on the number of articles. The agreement applies to Research Articles, Review Articles and Rapid Communications as well as Brief Reports and Case Reports.
Under the DEAL contract with Elsevier, corresponding authors from the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their articles in the publisher's subscription journals (Core Hybrid) as open access publications at no additional cost.
The second component of the DEAL contract with Elsevier concerns publications in the pure Open Access journals (Fully Gold). Corresponding authors of the University of Passau receive a 20% discount on Elsevier Fully Gold Open Access journals and a 15% discount on the list prices of the Fully Gold Cell Press and The Lancet journals. The publications can be financially supported according to the conditions of the Open Access Publication Fund.

Under a publish and read agreement with the publisher SAGE, corresponding authors of the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their publications in the hybrid journals (Sage Choice) from the subject area Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) in Open Access without further costs or a cap on the number of articles.
Corresponding authors of the University of Passau are granted a 20% discount on the publication fees (APCs) when publishing in the publisher's pure Open Access journals (Gold OA). The publications can be financially supported according to the conditions of the Open Access Publication Fund.
Under the DEAL agreement with Springer Nature, corresponding authors of the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their articles in the publisher's subscription journals (Open Choice) as Open Access publications at no additional cost. The agreement applies to Primary Research Articles and Review Articles.
The second component of the DEAL agreement with Springer Nature concerns publications in the publisher's pure Open Access journals (Gold OA). Corresponding authors from the University of Passau receive a 20% discount on publication charges (APCs). The publications can be financially supported according to the conditions of the Open Access Publication Fund.

In addition, corresponding authors from the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their articles in Nature and the Nature Research Journals in open access (with the exception of Nature Review Journals and Nature Protocols) at no additional cost under another publish-and-read agreement with Springer Nature (Nature transformative agreement for Germany).
Under a publish and read agreement with the publisher Taylor & Francis, corresponding authors of the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their publications in hybrid open access journals (Open Select Journals) in open access with Taylor & Francis and Routledge without further costs or a cap on the number of articles.
Under the DEAL agreement with Wiley, corresponding authors from the University of Passau have the opportunity to publish their articles in the publisher's subscription journals (Online Open) as Open Access publications at no additional cost. The agreement applies to Primary Research Articles and Review Articles.
